Leave Your Anchored Text Here!
I don’t think I can be clearer on the subject here but I WANT comments! This may be a little rant here but I don’t quite understand why only a select few loyal readers take the time to leave a comment on this blog. Recently on other blogs I have seen a few posts about why people delete comments, the commenting etiquette and the understanding that a lot of comments are left in order to get a quick and easy link, so in response to that I ask you this………why no comments here? Want me to sell myself? OK!
Three reasons you SHOULD comment here.
1) Other than the total spam comments, I will NOT delete any comment left - good, bad or downright rude!
2) This is a DO FOLLOW blog and so you will get your quick and dirty links. Leave your anchored text if you want!
3) I have an predicted PR 3/4 on the next update so just because it says zero now…you are not wasting your time!
I have never understood people who delete comments because someone leaves anchored text, or (I know who you are) people who regularly read blogs and NEVER leave a comment at all. You are missing the point - a comment is a comment is a comment right? No! Ok, so if you want to leave a cheap ass ‘nice blog’ type comment then so be it, but it does not take more than a minute to write a little something and get involved. I regularly find new blogs because of a good comment that I have read and have built a lot of my traffic by way of my own comments elsewhere.
N.B All you Entrecard droppers who come here for a quick drop are also missing out on some good quality long term traffic and a links. So what you get a quick drop and have to go quickly because you have another 299 to do for the day?!? Take a minute to leave a comment and build your links (which are way more important anyway) as you will get more out of it in the long run.
RANT OVER! Just tell me what makes you leave a comment? Do you censor your own comments? Does your own lack of comments frustrate you?
P.S If you want to check for your predicted PR then use this handy tool below!

I completely agree!
I am part of the fashion blogging community and unfortunately I don’t think half the fashion bloggers out there understand the benefits from commenting. The fashion industry is extremely catty so I cannot say that I am shocked, but I do read many fashion blogs and very few of them get quality comments.
Also, if people do comment they tend to say selfish things and will only comment if it helps them in some way, instead of getting involved for the sake of good discussion and learning.
Maybe you should guest write on my blog and help the fashion bloggers out there understand the value of commenting! I am happy you wrote this post x

i had the same problem before. little to no comments were mad even my blog being dofollow. But since i installed commentluv and top commentators i have seen an increase in comments.
I usually don’t comment to get the so called link juice. I comment to attract potential readers to my blog…. writing this made me think on a new post…. hehe

@ UBTC: Awesome comment! While I do not blog fashion I can totally understand your frustrations from the way you wrote here. Whatever the reasons for commenting it is always good to get some. I’ve seen people make personal attacks about other commentors on someone elses blog in mmo so nothing surprises me. I’d be happy to guest write a little piece for you and only hope it helps. Thanks again for an awesome comment.
@ Hugo: Back again I see. Thanks also for sharing those thoughts. You really think those plugins is what did it for you??? Great point about attracting the personal readers, it really does work. You know, you comment on my I comment on yours and that is how you build a good relationship and gain more readers. I’ll be checking out your new post and happy to inspire! Thanks Hugo.

@ AP: Well, to be honest… I’ve got no clue what makes people comment. I’ve noticed that my site goes in spurts… my future wide tells me my blog sucks
because people “look” like fair weather friends… you know… comment when the need something or when it suits them. For example… I’ve offered quite a bit of free stuff on my site over the last month. In fact, if some of my 3,500 unique visitors would have commented on more of them… the prizes and giveaways would have been a couple thousand dollars. However, for some reason, comments suffered dearly on some posts, and went nuts on others.
I took a look at “Quick & Dirty’s” site and noticed a similar trend… some posts have 3 comments… some 25 and more. When reading said comments… I didn’t… or at least I couldn’t… notice a pattern that might divulge the reasoning.
On PB… I noticed that when it’s something I’m giving away comments upto and right after a bleak… Maybe people don’t need to be bartered with?!?
On the other hand, other blogs will have 30 comments as an average, and 300 on their contest posts. Hmmm it’s a mystery.
So how’s BMD working out? I’ve been thinking about trying it out, but not sure if I think it’s worth it. Or what’s that other thing you’re using??? Any way, great post… I’m just as lost as you are, and I hope that you can start reviewing some of these popular softwares so that I know what to buy and what NOT to.
Peace bro!
PS: I just sent Bryan 500 Viagra comments to make up for his roadside attack.

@PB- I used to do give aways and stuff all the time when I first started going, I gave away a $300 cash prize out of my pocket, a ton of gift cards, tickets, etc. and while it would increase commenting during the time, it’d die right after the competition. My whole thing was get exposure, get people used to commenting, and the readers will love the stuff so much they’ll stay. I retained a handful of the people, but I’m not entirely sure that it was worth the effort or money I shelled out. I recently traded some advertising for some sports memorabilia which includes a game used Hanley Ramirez game-used bat, a signed Albert Pujols jersey, and some other things, and I was thinking about doing a give-away, but I’m don’t know if it’s even worth the effort anymore.
My whole thing is, if someone comes and likes the site, they’ll like it regardless of the gimmicks. If they don’t like it, they’ll just stick around and bounce. Bryan’s contest actually teaches knowledge, so there is more worth there. He isn’t just setting out grabbags. Check out the dude’s site thate did the MacBook Air give away, I bet his stuff is way down. In fact, I commented there four/five times a day when that was going on, and I can’t even remember the name of the site…

@ Nick: See I actually thought that the scenario you just mentioned would be the case for me… however, it’s the opposite. Not sure why either.
I couldn’t tell you for sure why comments go up and down… especially on my site, but I can tell you that it’s quite frustrating, so I know your pain. In fact, I’ve really considered closing down the “ol’ pisser” more an more often as of late.
Thought about giving it away, selling it, deleting it… you name it, I’ve thought about it this week.
Oh, I’m not sure if you noticed, but I put up a “hire me” banner the other day… within hours I had 6 e-mails… everyone of them was asking for free help. I don’t get it. It says “Hire Me” not “Abuse Me”.
You live and you learn I guess. Maybe I’ll discover the secret one day and write myself an e-book or something.

@ Bryan: Nice comment…fatboy!
@ Nick: Despite the memory loss, that is an superb comment. I can totally see your point about losing the gimmicks and just accepting that people are people and there is no accounting for what they do or might do. I’m a sucker for freebies and giveaways but like you say, they are ten to a penny now and I always forget where I leave comments too, especially if it for a one time gimmick. Does it just boil down to building relationships??
@ PB: I feel your frustrations mate. As much as I try to just stick with doing my own thing, the lack of reaction/interest does get to me. I have not offered any gimmicks or great competitions as you have on your blog but on feedback from you and nick it does not sound worth it. Also thought about selling AP but I think I need to stick with it a little longer. I make my money with other sites and sometimes this is more trouble than it’s worth….is that what you are feeling?
I will get a BMD review up shortly as I have had a wierd weekend.
@ All: Thanks for the comments so far. I have just seen that entrecard users are organising a ‘comment bomb’ where 100 users pick a site and then all leave a comment on one particular post. Maybe that’s what I need????

PB- Truthfully, though, I think that at times you allow your emotions to get to you too much with the site. It’s a website, that thing is still a baby, you can’t go from nothing to A-List over night. You’ll get there, but like most businesses that fail, you have to stick it out until you get over the tipping point. Everyone wants to see the view from the top of Everest, yet only a few have the will power to make the climb. They, my friend, are the one’s that reap the rewards.

I actually like more real life communication. It’s just that typing takes so much more effort (I still have to look at my fingers when I type
and I often find it too time consuming. Therefore I like to read more then I write and that I do a lot, especially video/photo/hardware/software and internet related geek stuff.
Only sometimes I do take the effort to comment, then it’s usually about a subject that interests me and were i want to share my opinion which is usually different
On my site I don’t get many comments but I don’t mind that much, I know people are reading and instead of commenting they sometimes call me if they read an article on my site and if they have any questions about it.I think if you want to build a loyal readerbase it all depends on the topic you blog about and in the language you do it, people that react on my site are, or my clients, or people that are doing video as a hobby or people that want to get into the weddingbusiness and have 1001 questions.
I know that blogging only in Dutch limits the readersbase a lot but untill now I’m ok with that though I was thinking about adding an “english category” on my site as well. This because I see that periods when traffic is higher on my site that certain keywords for my business score better in google. So I’d like to get some more readers visiting the site.
I also didn’t know that these anchored text made a difference and I liked the page rank predictor, I appears that I will be going from 2 to 4, I just wonder how correct it is?
And PB, don’t give up that soon, think you want win the Olympics and you just started training
Your freebees are nice but don’t overdo it, just trow one in now and then if you can afford it but don’t use it as a base to get loyal readers. You just need to fill your blog with what interests you and by doing that over time you will create a loyal reader base which will keep your site going. It’s like a big Dutch video forum I know which has over 10000 registered user but only max 20 really active ones, take those 20 away and the forum falls apart.
Once your blog is filled up and contains enough material to browse through people will start coming back, if you trow in a freebee then it will have a much bigger impact while now you are using it to jumpstart your blog which is not a good solid base.
And don’t you dare to sell or give up or I will send Jean-Claude van Damme to kick your ass.

@ PB, forgot something, about your “hire me not abuse me” banner.
I know you have got the skills but if I were visiting your site for the first time looking for a redesign or whatever the first thing I would be doing was to look for your portfolio which is not there. Then I’d read the “let me redesign your site” topic and I also would be asking for a free design.

Think you need to put up what you can do and then most likely the first serious requests should follow.June 30th, 2008 at 1:23 pm -

@ Robin: If you do have to look at your fingers when you type then thank you so much for all the time it must have taken to write that totally brilliant comment. Anchored links make all the difference let me tell you! As for the PR predictor…I have been using it for ages and it seems to be pretty damn accurate. I did some due dilligence for you and think that if you do spend some time getting quality (high PR, anchored text links) between now and the next update you should cetainly hit that PR4. Your advice to PB is perfect and I had to laugh at the Jean claude van damme you ass!!! I used to live in teveuren (brussels) many years ago so maybe I should have paid more attention in class and I could understand your site a little better. Thanks for getting involved Robin.
@ PB: So there will be no mrspiss.com then? Thats a shame.
@ Ken: Thanks for the return comment - a very valid point about making connections. I think that entrecard comment bomb might keep you very busy if you are replying to all! Glad you liked the post…I truly liked your blog too. Cheers.
@ Nicola: haha, glad to have been of service to you. Just wait till my PR kicks in and it will be worth your while.
@ Seiken:So you agree with Ken then??

But I would like to know what spurs on comments. I’m glad to know I’m not the only person who struggles. If you like, maybe you’d be interested in doing a guest post on my website?

Nice way to get comments, too. I see it is working, i think i may be the only blogger who doesnt want a ton of comments. Maybe because i have a gazillion blogs. I do want them, and i do like them, but im not really actively looking for them.

Will subscribe to your blog. I notice something super interesting happening. We, the bloggers that all commented originally on OMG, have formed a group. I see the same faces and names, on a traveling circuit, if you will.
