Notes to PissBiscuit

I got a comment from Pissbiscuit.com recently and really liked that he took the time to post quality comments. Actually I found his site after reading comments he had left on another site, so it goes to show that comments can bring you readers. Not only that but I laugh everytime I hear the name. Anyway in what I think could become a regular feature for the affiliate post I present to you ‘Notes to PissBiscuit’.

@ AP: I’ve got a question… I’ve “heard” rumors of BANS sites being almost set it and forget it… but are they worth it? I mean if you go check out Max Davis on the BloggingExperiment, he talks about building these BANS deals and then selling it as a turnkey site (flipping websites) for a nominal fee like… $30.00 or something silly. Seems like a lot of work for thirty bucks… but what do you think… you’re the pro!Anyway, since I own more servers than I can shake a stick at, and my profession is web, I thought for a little while that maybe, just maybe… I could use it on a mass scale to make some progressive passive income every month. Then something happened! I either came to my senses, or sobered up long enough to realize I’ve got no clue how to do any of this… You’re post just makes me ask… is it worth the effort? and can you make “real” money with it?

PissBiscuit,

First of all, thanks for the quality comments and welcome to The Affiliate Post.

Before we get started I must first clarify that you will not get rich quick using bans. Many people just expect to get rich overnight on one website or another, there is that sheep mentality of people copying the first few blogs they happen to read and expecting results overnight . My personal opinion is that to make any “real” (by this I assume you mean a sizeable amount) money online you have work hard, research harder and have a little originality. There are plenty of ways to make money online, Bans being just one of them, but unless you happen to get lucky or work exceedingly hard then you are just not going to make it. With all those servers did you think about offering hosting? Just a thought!

My experience of Bans has been great so far, all my sites are ranking well and starting to accumulate a daily turnover. Do expect to get rich from them? No……What I expect will happen is that I’ll manage to build up a healthy passive income from niche stores which will increase as time goes by and that, combined with other online projects, will allow me to sit and work from the comfort of my own home in my in a couple of years.

There is quite little involved in setting up these site using bans so as far as selling them as turnkey sites it’s not a bad idea but you are not going to reap the full bebefit of what this program can do for you. Actually if you head over to sitepoint you will see some joker trying to sell his bans site for a buy it now price of £8,950. Thats right………9k for a bans site no more than a month old! If that does manage to sell then who is to say I might not put a few of my own on the market :)
Funny you should mention blogging experiment as I have been checking this one out too. It changed hands recently but there was a post that caught my eye about his experiences with niche stores. See the idea of using bans that has caught on is the 100 sites principle - build one hundred sites that make a minimum of a dollar a day, or $100 a day. Some may scoff at the thought of earning a dollar a day but it all adds up. If I continually build up my portfolio of bans sites, getting anchored text links and nailing some good keywords then I will ultimately increase the value of those domains as well.

As for being set and forget, the thing I find about websites is that they always require tweaking a little. The build a niche store program makes it easy to get started and being an seo yourself you should certainly be trying this out. The key is to get the sites up in the first place - you can always go back and adapt the aesthetics as and when required.

I hope that has answered your question and thanks once again for reading.

The thing about BANS that I’ll never get is this - why buy it? You can create the same thing using a Wordpress blog and eBay affiliates program. However, having said that… I did buy it. It hasn’t been great for me so far, but in all fairness… I haven’t really put the time in either.

Thanks for stopping by Tom. I have bookmarked your site for a closer look. I must get some sleep soon but I have been glued to the pc tonight.

And Bryan…. you are of course so right, and there are many other programs like it too. Using bans just makes it a whole lot easier and quicker to get the sites done. It’s always nice to have these sites running in the background while you get down to making money through other means.

@AP: You’re very welcome and in all actuality you should be thanked for such a detailed answer. If you’re interested, I’d be more than happy to do a regular “appearance” and of course vice versus :-)
Hosting… I actually DO provide hosting… but mainly for my website design clients. I’ve always been afraid of not having having enough storage space to really make collecting $6.oo a month worth while. But, what the hell, I’m game for any opportunity so let’s just say if you’ve got an idea, I’m open to it and speaking of which…

I just posted a request for help over at my blog where I’m willing to send someone to the “An Event Apart” conference of THEIR choice for free… but I want to do something special with it… not just hand it out. You know, a little shameless publicity never hurt anyone.

So, I offered a years worth of hosting to a random commenter who can help me figure out a neato way to give away this conference ticket worth about $1,000.00

Now down to BANS… It’s something that my brother would come up with. When he realized that I was a real life website designer, he said “hey just build 200 sites selling stuff, you’ll be rich over night!”…

I make a 6 figure income (barely) as the web producer for the company I work for… I’m fine with that too. I just thought (and still do) that if I could make an extra $1,000 a month (not building websites or blogs) I’d have a whole lot a play money and never have to touch my payroll check.

So, it appears maybe doing some sort of experiment is on order… 365 BANS in 365 Days… hmmm my hamster wheel is turning.

Anyway, thanks again for the fulfilling answer and the site plug and don’t forget, I’m looking for some creative help!
