iPower Sucks!
Not that I did not already know it but, ipower sucks… and this morning was the last straw for me. I awoke and started my breakfast routine when I found that my site was out of action, once again. I nearly spilt coffee and cornflakes all over all over my keyboard as I leapt up in fury at the realisation that iPower had again let me down. Now it takes a lot to irk me but there was an instant feeling of dread as I realised that firstly, all those visitors had been trying to access my site without joy and second, I had to go to work and this problem would not be instantly resolved. I was not in the best of moods!
So on my walk to work I was thinking…screw them, this always happens. Why don’t you just change your account over to that wonderful reseller account you have with Hostgator? As my internet restrictions at work only stop me gambling and gmailing, on my arrival to work I set about making some changes. I got my account set up ready with my hostgator reseller package and, as I wanted to free myself from all things iPower, I paid to transfer the domain name to my GoDaddy account too.
You are now chatting with ‘Richard’
Neal: Hi Richard
Richard: Hi Neal, my name is Richard, how are you today?
Neal: I am trying to transfer my domain to godaddy but I am not getting the email which contains the details I need.
Neal: what is the best way to resolve this?
Richard: Can you please hold while I review your account and get back within 2 to 3 minutes?
Neal: of course
Richard: To protect your account from unauthorized changes, can you please verify for me the answer to the Security Question:
Richard: What is your mother’s maiden name?
Neal: ************
Richard: Thank you for the authentication.
Richard: Can you please provide me with your first and the last name for our records?
Neal: Neal ************
Ok, so we are going fairly well so far, though I did raise question as to the order in which he asked me the security question but I let that slide. After waiting a while we got to this…
Neal: *echo*
Neal: Are you there?
Richard: Yes, I am here.
Neal: oh good
Richard: To change the Administrative contact information for your domain, please refer to the steps:
Richard: 1. Log into https://manage.opensrs.net with domain name, domain username and domain password.
Richard: 2. Click on ‘Admin Contact’ link.
Richard: 3. Enter new contact information. If you wish to apply the changes to Organization, Billing and Technical contact information too, check on ‘Yes’ radio button available under ‘Also Apply these changes to’ option.
Richard: 4. Click on ‘Save Configuration’ button.
So finally we get some slightly helpful information and then he hits me with the killer question!
Richard: Is there a specific reason why you need your domain to be transferred? Perhaps, if I knew why you want to transfer your domain we could work something out so that we could better suit your needs. This information helps us to improve our services.
Neal: Tell the truth I am not best pleased with iPower at all and I am REALLY delighted with both godaddy and my reseller account at hostgator. Enough said without being rude!
Richard: Okay.
Neal: Okay?
Neal: That is a little defeatist don’t you think?
Richard: We need to disable Domain Privacy for your domain name.
Neal: Okay.
I know damn well that there are thousands before me who have testified as to the shortcomings of iPower and it seems that you did not listen already. Lets be honest here, if iPower had listened before then I would probably not be wanting to escape so much would I now? When people complained about your slow servers, your excessive downtime and your piss poor customer service and technical support, what did you say? ‘OKAY.’??? Pleeeease spare me!
Richard: Please provide me domain name login details so that I can disable Domain Privacy for your account.
Neal: *************
Richard: Sorry for typo* domain login details
Neal: what else do you need?
Richard: I need domain password.
Neal: *************
Richard: Thank you for the authentication.
Neal: no worries
Richard: I have disabled Domain Privacy tool for your domain name.
Richard: It may take 2 to 3 hours to update the changes.
Neal: Please don’t steal my domain Richard. I rather like it
Neal: so in two hours I will be set free from iPower, am I right?
Richard: Yes.
Neal: perfect
Neal: Thanks Richard
Richard: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Neal: not now, not ever I don’t think… but thanks for asking!
Richard: Thank you for chatting with us. Please feel free to contact us at any time. We are available 24×7.
Chat session has been terminated by the site operator.
And so ends my relationship with iPower.

@ Hugo: I knew someone was going to pick up on that. Yes, with so many hosting deals out there I am always one who likes to try things for myself, so I bought a years worth of hosting with ipower, bluehost and hostgator. I mostly use my hostgator account as they are brilliant. Bluehost have not been too bad either to be fair, but iPower have been piss poor and like you say, better late than never. It is something I have been meaning to do for ages but just never got round to doing. Anyway, with much help from http://thepissbiscuit.com I am up and running again safe and secure on hostgator. Thank for coming back!!

Hey AP, I am currently in the middle of switching my sites to hostgator, and I have nothing but good things to say. I was with Godaddy, which I never had issues with, but, I needed the Swamp package! I have some things in the works that will take use of those resources…..
never heard of iPower though…

you said you have 3 different hosting accounts. well this means 3 different ip’s. You can get some benefits by having different websites linking each other with different ip’s.

Crap I was leaving single words in your comments because I was testing my gravatar picture. I changed it, but it seems to not be changing on the sites. Then I realized that you have a box to the side that lists all your recent comments, and I look like a complete moron with my testing words so i felt the need to explain myself before people think I am stupid!

@ Hugo: I fully intend to utilise the benefits! Thanks for that.
@ Britt: One word comments deleted. No need to feel stupid anymore
You might need to clear your cache when you change gravatars as it sometimes displays your old one instead…when the rest of the world sees your new one.theaffiliateposts last blog post..Competition Half Way Analysis

LOL. Yes, that makes me laugh thinking about it. Worst job in the world to 1. work for ipower customer support and 2. put up with smart ass remarks from people like me!
Alls good now though, cheers Jay.

I worked for a while in customer support too. If you let all the sarcastic comments get to you it can really stress you out, so the best thing to do is switch off, just like Richard did… I think
Although he could well have been a newbie, reading from his script and, as you say, not really listening at all. Let’s hope his line manager wasn’t listening in to that call, otherwise his days there will be numbered.
Poor Richard

As to hosting, I love Hostgator… so far anyway. But I am looking for an additional hosting package, just to have somewhere different. Never fancied Bluehost though and now it seems like iPower is out too.
I’ll keep looking.zanias last blog post..Make Money Promoting Free Resources with RevResponse

I’m with Ipower now and having a hellish time trying to sort things out with them. To think, I was actually trying to transfer a second domain with them. The first domain listing, no problem. The transfer is where it all went wrong. Now, they’re trying to keep money that the said they were going to refund just last week. What a way to kick off a morning. I’m thinking I’ll transfer the domain I actually have with them to a company more reliable.

@ Tay: They are absolutely terrible mate. I feel your pain. I reccomend you get your doma9in switched over to godaddy and get some hosting with hostgator. They are the only two firms I use now!!!
Good luck with getting away from ipower.
