MyFootballClub.co.uk

Ok so affiliate marketing is fun and I always enjoy following new sites through to success. After clearing the phenomenal amount of spam out of my inbox I have just received my latest club update from myfootballclub.co.uk which, albeit with a difference, is a fine example of the power of affiliates. For those of you not aware of this site already, its a UK based site which was used to recruit tens of thousands of people to a trust which, not so long ago, bought the majority share in a football club. This was unprecedented and has proven to be a big success with Ebbsfleet (the club we bought) having reached the FA trophy cup final at Wembley stadium; they have also gained sponsorship from Nike for the coming season.

The idea behind the site is that you, as part of the trust, get to vote on anything from minor admin decisions through to team selection. It’s basically a real life fantasy football game!

I joined this site prior to any purchase agreement as they were looking to take over Leeds United. The site gained much exposure, certainly in the UK, and is now a healthy PR 5 with an Alexa ranking of 79,900. myfootballclub.co.uk has about 28,000 members who all paid £35 per year to join from all over the world. Not bad for such a short space of time!

I really like the site design and think this was a fabulous idea…..another example of how you can harness the power of affiliate marketing principles if you just think about what you are doing. There is no money to be made by joining this venture (not yet anyway) but I hope that you will all take a look at it and let me know your thoughts. Affiliates have got to have fun too, right?
