The PR Update!

You are all going crazy right now checking all your sites to see if Google gave you a pat on the back or a slap in the face! I have been noticing all the google PR update info being posted on various blogs and congratulations to all of you who got some love; it seems that most did.

I have checked all my sites and they pretty much stayed the same which I am happy with, but I am happier still at the fact that this very site you are reading got it’s first PR……a PR2! Now don’t get me wrong, I am happy about this, but I was slightly perturbed at being beaten down by a certain cupcake eating fatkid who got himself a PR3…. in just 7 weeks!

In response to that article, my figures at the time of the update read something like this.

Age: 5 months 10 days

Links: 1606

Alexa: 436,327

Technorati: 293,888

45n5 Top 100: 297

Traffic: Dismal!

In my recent hiatus I’ve been thinking long and hard about selling this site. However, looking at those numbers, even with the PR rank I am far from where I need to be with this site. That is not to say that I’m not open to offers (please send any serious offers through the contact page) but that appears to be the first time that I have laid down any of my own stats and it is not pretty reading. I can do way better than that! I know I have a lot going on with all my other online work but… to neglect my ‘home’ is not the way forward. I propose setting myself some kind of challenge for next month (maybe one that my regular readers will also accept), something that kicks my ass into gear and either makes or breaks The Affiliate Post. All ideas and challenges welcomed, please comment below.

Has it all been good news on the PR update? Well no, of course not! One notable google slap came over at onemansgoal as Marc dropped to a PR0. When I wrote about the sale of onemansgoal it was ranked at a PR4, which then slipped to a 2 last time and now, sadly, to a big fat zero. Cheep your chin up Marc….I don’t know how exactly how Google updates go, but you should be able to pull that back with a little hard work.

In closing, please feel free to leave comments and let me know how you got on with google…..good or bad! I am looking for a challenge to take up next month so any ideas will be considered and finally, should I stay or should I go?

Have a good weekend folks!

[...] Several of my fellow blogger friends, wrote a post on their blog, with their comments and thoughts on the infamous pagerank update. There was the fat cupcake eater or is it the kid who eats fat cupcakes, who wrote on his rise to PR 3 in 7 weeks. Then there was the British bloke who has an affiliate blog, but rarely writes on affiliate marketing, who got his cherry popped with a PR 2. [...]

Yeah, that was one big ouch for Marc.
Real shame, but maybe Google are still considering his request for reconsideration…. perhaps.

Love the link to PB by the way ;)

As to The Affiliate Post, well, you have been busy as of late, so it’s not surprising you couldn’t post here as much.
There’s also the point that some of us haven’t been able to sign up yet for your RSS feed (haven’t tried it this time around, I have to admit - will in a minute). I know that RSS subscribers won’t count for much with big G, but they could get you extra comments and thus more content…

I like The Affiliate Post (not thinking of buying it though ;) ). It’s clean looking, nice and easy to read (much better than mine is). And it has good content too, when you get around to writing it. So it will rise in PR next time, I should say.
In fact, it has the makings of a real ‘flagship blog’.

Does that help kick your ass in gear? :)

@ AP: As we’ve discussed, you know that my advice to you is to find yourself a nice little corner, claim it as your own and make the best of it… okay, odd analogy, but my point is that I think you in some way should be blogging a lot like I am. Instead, you’re kinda backed into an “affiliate” based corner with the name.

Like everyone but Zania, you’ve grabbed the occasional blogger’s blues. That said, I’m likely the worst of the bunch when it comes to doubting ones self. Just look at all my wild ideas… I’ve gone no where with them as of yet.

Hell there is one site I bought that I’ve done ZERO with and with the money I spent on it, I could have bought a Viper sports car!

We all love your content, so maybe change the name, re-route a new domain name to it, keep the content, and blog for the hell of it. On the other hand, you’ve got some G-Love… might be time to sell.

As for the Fat kid joke… ha ha. Good one… and Zania, you;re really not helping by egging him on. (Slimming Solution…LMAO)

    @PB,
I get the bloggers blues too. You only have to read my depression blog to see that, lol!

You gave good advice to AP. But as to changing the name… AP promotes stuff here to help bloggers make money, so the name The Affiliate Post fits ok with that aspect.
Re-routing would be a good consideration which would allow AP’s posts to follow a wider area, as long as not too many re-routes are done. I’m still not sure how that works regarding ‘Google luv’ though. Could be dodgy…
I’ll have to have another look some time…

@ Zania: I think the problem with most bloggers (taken from experience) is that a great idea today is a good ideas tomorrow. I know that AP’s posts are directed at making money online, but just knowing him… I’d say it’s a topic that’s wearing a bit thin on him.

I’m not saying the his content is slacking at all, but I do think that his blogging mojo is feeling the wrath of those dreaded bloggers blues.

The value of a blog (in my opinion) is determined by it’s existing monetization position, it’s potential monetization position, traffic stats, and its current standing within the serps. That said, what is THIS blog worth… I have no clue.

Regardless, my advice is to sell it if there is a buyer. On the other end… the material here is GREAT making selling it a pain in the ass decision to make. The solution… change the domain… install a 404 to 303 redirect pointing all these existing posts to a new category called Make Money Online. Of course this is after a new domain has been bought and redirected. The G-Man will have no problem as long as there is that fancy little two step redirect.

If you start pulling loads of 404’s the next time the site was crawled… back to a zero the PR would go. Not good. But at least AP would be able to explore more options in his blogging. Just my 4 cents! 8-)

Congrats on getting some PR juice! I noticed that many of our sites got a boost on this last update, though some (like Kirsty over at Nerdy Nomad) saw a bit of a drop. I’m sure she’ll be back on track in no time though.

Thanks Frank. Yeah it is a shame about that, but Kirsty is a trooper and she will be back up in no time at all. I think that once you are up and away from the PR0 it makes all the difference and that then you can start tweaking and building to push for the higher PR. It’s still a mystery how the whole system works but its all part of the game I guess.

Appreciate you stopping by and good luck with that nice looking site of yours.

Good job dude! The PR updates were pretty fun. I came out with a 1, though my site isn’t as old as your’s, PB got that 3 so….ahh well.

It may have something to do with my dofollow links, but, I expect it to be better next time around…and if not…oh well, long as you guys and gals keep coming around and bringing me nutty bars I’m good :)
